Results from a multicenter study question the efficacy of higher vancomycin concentrations for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bloodstream infections.
The findings, presented at Infectious Disease Week 2017 (abstract 985), linked an area under the curve/minimum inhibitor concentration (AUC/MIC)ETEST of 320 or greater to higher rates of acute kidney injury (AKI), without improving the likelihood of treatment success.
Guidelines recommend a vancomycin peak AUC/MICBMD
