A case of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection due to contaminated eye drops presented months before the CDC’s warning about the risk for the infection, according to a recently published case report.
The CDC issued a warning to the public of the risk in February 2023, but the 72-year-old female patient in Cleveland was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer, caused by infection by P. aeruginosa in November 2022 (Antimicrob Agents Chemother 2023 May 11. doi:10.1128/aac.00277-23).
