From 2015 to 2019, more than 200 outbreaks of illness associated with recreational water use were reported to the CDC, with cases peaking during the summer months.
The numbers represent cases voluntarily reported to the CDC that occurred in pools, hot tubs and water playgrounds in the United States (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2021;70[20]:733-738).
