Efficacy of Antibiotics in CF Patients May Be Affected by pH, Oxygen in Lungs

Patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) battle chronic lung infections that are notoriously resistant to antibiotic therapy. Yet a one-size-fits all approach to wiping out the offending bacteria may not be the best approach, according to a new study by researchers at the University of California, San Diego.

Instead, researchers discovered that tweaking other factors in a CF lung model, such as pH balance and oxygen, helped eradicate pathogenic bacteria while minimizing risks for
