Lead was not the only problem with the Flint, Mich., water supply. Public health officials also found a diverse variety of Legionella pneumophila strains, the bacteria that cause Legionnaires’ disease, between 2014 and 2015, according to a new study.
The report found a high degree of similarity among four water isolates originating from Flint tap water and three regional clinical strains known to cause Legionnaires’ disease (Emerg Infect Dis 2019;25[11]:2013-2020).
