New Ebola Cases Appear in Democratic Republic of Congo

By Ethan Covey

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced the discovery of a cluster of Ebola virus cases in North Kivu province. This comes more than a week after an outbreak in Equateur province was declared over.

The new outbreak is caused by Zaire ebolavirus, the same species that caused the Equateur province outbreak, according to the CDC. However, differences in the genes of the viruses indicate they are not linked.
