Dogs: Canaries in the Forest

Dogs are sentinels for assessing the risk for Lyme disease in humans, according to new research from the Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC).

By reviewing canine surveillance data of more than 27 million canine Borrelia burgdorferi antibody test results collected between 2012 and 2018, the study showed that human incidence of Lyme disease increases as dog seroprevalence increases.
