Antifungal-Resistant Tinea Cases Found in New York

Two cases of tinea caused by Trichophyton indotineae, a novel dermatophyte mold species that exhibits resistance to antifungal medications, have been identified in New York, according to the CDC.

Although T. indotineae infections have been reported throughout Asia, as well as in Europe and Canada, this is the first time cases have been described in the United States (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2023;72:536-537).
