A study conducted by the New York State Department of Health found that cases of blastomycosis are on the rise in the state, an area not previously linked with the infection, which is caused by Blastomyces, a parasitic fungus that lives in the environment, particularly in moist soil.
The results show the broadening scope of blastomycosis and challenges associated with appropriately mapping its spread (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2018;67:1077–1078).
“These
