Waterborne hepatitis A virus (HAV) outbreaks have declined sharply since they first began being reported to the Waterborne Disease and Outbreak Surveillance System (WBDOSS) in 1971, according to a CDC report.
Individual water systems, which are not required to meet national drinking water standards, were responsible for four HAV outbreaks, which occurred during 1995-2009. Since 2009, there have been no waterborne HAV outbreaks in the United States (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep
