A study of Minnesota hospitals found that only one-fourth had active water management plans, and only 21% regularly sample for the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease.
The researchers stressed that significant water management changes need to occur to meet the requirements of the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services (CMS) and better protect patients from health care–associated Legionella infections (Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol 2018;39[3]:336-338).
