According to an update from the Guinea Worm Eradication Program (GWEP), human cases of dracunculiasis—Guinea worm disease—fell to all-time lows globally during 2021. However, global eradication efforts are still hampered by the existence of infections in animals, primarily domesticated dogs (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2022;71[47]:1496-1502).
