Private Hospital Rooms Shield Infants From S. aureus

Infants being treated in a neonatal ICU (NICU) are less likely to be infected with Staphylococcus aureus when housed in private rooms instead of a multiple-crib environment.

A study recently showed the importance of NICU bed design in minimizing the risk for methicillin-resistant (MRSA) or susceptible S. aureus (MSSA) infections (Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol 2017 Nov 21 [Epub ahead of print]).

S. aureus is a frequent cause of health care–acquired infections in NICUs in the
