Hand-Washing Not a Panacea Against MRSA Transmission in NICU

Even if hospital workers practice perfect hand hygiene, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) can still spread among babies in the neonatal ICU (NICU), according to new research led by a Drexel University researcher.

During an average nine-day NICU stay, an infant is likely to have about 250 contacts with health care workers who could transmit MRSA.
