DrySee released a waterproof bandage with a color-changing wetness indicator, which may help reduce the number of surgical site infections.
The bandage was developed to provide a secure, waterproof covering for low exudate wounds. When liquid penetrates the bandage, the perimeter gauge barrier will change color from light blue to dark blue—signaling the patient the seal has been broken.
The internal gauze pad will also turn dark blue when liquid passes through to the second adhesive ring closer to the wound site. This will alert the patient that a bandage change is needed.
Surgical site infections will occur in 2% to 4% of all patients undergoing inpatient surgical procedures, and are responsible for the most readmissions to the hospital after surgery, according to the CDC. The company said the wetness indicator may help patients take the guesswork out of replacing their bandages and reduce the number of infections.
The bandages can last for up to four days and are available online in packs of four or 25. More information can be found on the company’s website.
