The use of antimicrobials may have directly affected the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant Escherichia coli isolated from Canadian turkey flocks, according to new research.
Although antimicrobials are intended to treat and control bacterial infections in poultry flocks, they have led to increased resistance. Antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, like E. coli, can then be transferred to humans through eating or having direct contact with an infected animal.
