Those With HIV at Higher Risk for Diabetes

By IDSE News Staff

HIV patients infected with HIV may be more susceptible to developing diabetes than other adults (BMJ Open Diabetes Res Care 2017;5[1]:e000304).

The prevalence of the condition was nearly 4% higher in a nationally representative sample of individuals being treated for the virus than among the U.S. general public, and often in the absence of a key risk factor—obesity—that is a major risk factor for the general public.
