Secnidazole Appears Successful for Common STD

By Ethan Covey

Secnidazole, a nitroimidazole anti-infective antibiotic, has been found to be safe and effective for the treatment of trichomoniasis, the most common nonviral sexually transmitted disease in the United States.

Trichomoniasis, which is caused by the protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis, is estimated to infect 3 million to 5 million people in the United States, and disproportionally affects Black women.
