The 2022 mpox outbreak in the United States primarily affected people living in cities, with more than 70% of cases occurring in large central urban areas.
In both urban and rural areas, incidence among people who identify as non-Hispanic Black or African American, and Hispanic or Latino was consistently higher than among white people (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2023;72:574-578).
