Retirees from the North are not the only folks settling in Florida. A new mosquito species has made its way across the tropics into Florida, making a permanent home in at least three counties. Scientists are concerned because of the rate of the new Culex lactator mosquitoes’ arrival and the potential for them to transmit mosquito-borne diseases (J Med Entomol 2023 Mar 22. doi:10.1093/jme/tjad023).
