Spread of C. difficile Infection Linked to Food Distribution

By Ethan Covey

The spread of deadly Clostridium difficile bacteria in Europe may be linked to food animals and distribution channels, according to a recently released study.

The data, which were unveiled at the 2017 European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Vienna, traced individual C. difficile strains to determine that the bacteria were spreading across multiple countries and channels (abstract 1072).
