Malarial control programs in Amazonian Peru helped reduce the incidence of the deadly parasitic disease by 78%, that is, until the programs ceased operation.
Within four years of the programs being defunded, rates of malaria were right back where they started (Lancet Reg Health Am 2023;20:100477).
