Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopes are medical devices that have been associated with outbreaks of health care–associated infections.¹ The flexible endoscope is a complex instrument with multiple channels and ports that can become heavily contaminated with microorganisms during use. Growth of biofilms inside endoscope channels can result in failure of endoscope reprocessing.
