Clostridium difficile Infection Rates Decrease in Long-Term Care Facilities

The incidence of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) at long-term care facilities (LTCFs) decreased markedly between 2011 and 2015 in 10 sites across the country, according to new surveillance data.

There was also a substantial decline in inpatient fluoroquinolone use, which may have contributed to the reduction in CDI, according to Alice Guh, MD, MPH, a medical officer in the CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion.
