Third Dose of MMR Vaccine May Control Against Mumps Outbreak

Students who received a third dose of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine had a far lower rate of mumps infection than those who received the standard two doses.

The data evaluated the effectiveness of a third MMR vaccine dose among highly vaccinated students during a recent outbreak at the University of Iowa (N Engl J Med 2017;377[10]:947-956).
