The world is getting a little closer to eliminating rubella and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS). A CDC report on rubella and CRS has recognized significant improvements, and remaining barriers, in control of the disease.
As of 2016, more than three-fourths of countries have introduced rubella-containing vaccine. However, less than half of infants worldwide have been vaccinated (MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep 2017;66[45]:1256-1260).
