Treating AIDS-Associated Histoplasmosis

To treat the fungal infection disseminated histoplasmosis in patients with advanced AIDS, a single IV infusion of high-dose liposomal amphotericin B (L-AmB), followed by oral therapy with itraconazole, was found to be just as effective as daily IV infusions, but less toxic, according to a small phase 2 trial presented at IDWeek 2022, held in Washington, D.C.
