MERS-Like Coronavirus Identified in Ugandan Bat

Researchers have identified a novel coronavirus in a bat from Uganda that is similar to Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in humans, giving further credence to the theory that these viruses originate in bats.

The multinational work was part of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Emerging Pandemic Threats PREDICT project (mBio [Epub Apr 4, 2017]. doi: 10.1128/mBio.00373-17).
